Our hostess in Glennallen, a wide spot in the road on the way to Valdez, was a piece of work. She was inordinately proud of the fact that she was a Licensed Massage Therapist (She capitalized it when she said it.), and has never met a conspiracy theory she didn't like. She stated as fact that the Gobbermunt was engaged in several types of mind control, including both CIA work and the HAARP project...see
HAARP. She told Kate how she (our hostess) had once driven past the project site (It's between Glennallen and Tok, and there's only one road.) at night and had seen the Northern Lights converging into a ball and undulating out of that ball RIGHT OVER THE PLACE! She also claimed to be on intimate terms with the Army general who had been in charge of the mind control aspect of HAARP, and he had told her ALL ABOUT IT. She worried about black helicopters and figured there were aliens on the moon. Why else hadn't we (The US) gone back? She had seen at least one UFO up close when it flew over her car and blacked out the stars overhead; she was heavily into crystals to solve all of your problems, and people should follow specific diets based on their blood type. It's probably redundant to say so, but she's a big, big fan of George Noory:
Noory
Wow and double wow!
We stayed with her for two nights, taking a side trip to the small town of Palmer during the second night. Except for beautiful scenery, it was unremarkable.
There was no restaurant in Glennallen. The first night we were there, we heated soup we had brought with us. The second night we ate at the Thai Truck. What do you think, Markie?
The next day, we drove to Valdez, the little town destroyed in the Good Friday 1964 earthquake that did so much damage to all of Alaska. The current city of Valdez is a couple of miles away from the original site, moved because reconstruction was problematic and they needed to get further from the tsunami zone......They're still not out of it, but the new site is better. Valdez has many faces: It's an important port, a historic town, a fishing center, sport and commercial. It's really a neat little town. See
Valdez.
We went on yet another extended boat tour. This time, we boarded at 10:45 and off-loaded at 7:00. The MC, and I use that term advisedly started talking as we pulled out of the harbor, and talked until we docked that evening. I don't think he drew breath. We saw some neat stuff and another really big glacier. Nuff said?
